Reviews
" Absolutely loved (Hannah's) portrayal of masculinity. A very skilful physical manipulation of the character with a subtlety that had me absolutely convinced" - IV
In this production of Anne Carson's 'Bakkhai' at Rose Bruford College I played the role of Pentheus and contributed to the musical production of the show. Writing cello and vocal parts for the score. As this was a company devised piece I also had a large role in the modernising and contextual work of this text; particularly involving my own character Pentheus. As we were portraying a gender bent Pentheus (still clearly a man but played by a woman) I dealt with a lot of mediation as to the misogynistic and harmful themes of the play including revenge on disobedient women and the punishment of feminine men. I lead the team in taking on a new perspective of Pentheus' character; one where he was not laughed at but understood as a deeply unloved and lost man. This was received with great success.
